Colin Goggin, MD
His Practice:
"I chose to practice as a family physician out of a desire to help people in a meaningful way. I believe that the people who come and see me in the office play the most important role in their health and I attempt to empower them to make good health decisions, educate them about illness and health, and help them navigate the technical aspects of disease and preventative medicine. Rather than seeing myself making decisions for people, I view my job as being a health consultant helping people make sound decisions regarding their health."
His Education:
"I was born and raised in California, went to undergraduate college at Carleton College in Minnesota, worked for a few years in Chicago as a laboratory technician and then went to University of Virginia School of Medicine. After medical school I spent a year traveling, volunteering, and studying Spanish in Latin America. I then went to a 3 year residency in Family Medicine in Denver Colorado. I came to work at the Swain Medical Center right after residency."
Why He is Working at the Swain Medical Center:
"My wife Linda and I decided to move and work here in 2003 lured in by the character of the people in this area, the beautiful location, the outdoor opportunities, and the fine physicians at Swain Medical Center. The more time I spend here, the more I develop respect for the patients I serve and my medical colleagues. I enjoy caring for folks not only in the clinic setting, the emergency department and in the hospital. In addition to working as a physician in the Swain Medical Center I now have the privilege of serving as the medical director of the Mountain View Manor nursing home and as the personal physician of many of the residents there."
His Interests:
"When I’m not working, you will probably find me spending time with my family which includes my wife Linda, our two daughters Charlie and Zoë, and our son, Henry. We like spending time outside in nature, reading books, telling stories, and crafts of all sorts. I love going for early morning runs. Between work and play I am trying to create a life filled with meaning and integrity."
