“Since no one has yet figured out how to separate the body from the spirit, I deem it especially important to become thoroughly informed about the totality of my patients’ lives, not just their coughs and colitis. This has led to rich friendships and has helped me keep my finger on the pulse of our wonderful community.
Working in the ED and visiting our local nursing home(s) provide a refreshing change of pace. (In fact, the day-to-day nature of our practice of medicine here is much like the weather – changing…or about to.)"
His Education:
"I majored in math in college. Then I did some graduate work in computer science and worked in that field before medical studies at the Medical College of Ohio. After completing an internship at a military hospital, I worked in the emergency room at that hospital for four years before moving to Bryson City where I have practice general medicine since 1990."
His Interests:
"My lovely wife: once you meet her, you will understand how she captured and kept my interest. My personal faith is my most compelling interest since I am betting my life that what Saint Paul said is true:
“Jesus Christ came into this world to save sinners, of whom I am chief.” My childrens’ goings on always get my immediate attention, as do most things historic. Any “fix it” project is relished along with yard work (I am a farmer at heart). My secret indulgence is reading Louis L’amour stories, if I can find one I have not yet read. I generally despise television!"
