His Practice:
His major interest is in Primary Care with a special interest in community education. Harvey writes frequently for the local newspaper and has been a strong supporter and teacher for wellness classes in the community. Also, he enjoys a variety of challenges from Urgent Care to Long Term Care. Has a large and varied practice and has been in the area for 10 years. His primary area of focus has been Pain Management. As the oldest member of the staff, he has started cutting back on his office schedule to begin a transition into retirement over the next few years.
His Education:
Harvey’s training started in the United States Air Force in 1965 as a corpsman. He proceeded to Independent Duty Status by 1973 and parted company with the service for a brief period of time to attend undergraduate training at University of New Hampshire where, after three years, he was accepted at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia for Physician Assistant training program. After graduating in 1979 with Bachelor in Medical Science and Certification as a Physician Assistant, Harvey was accepted into Head and Neck Medicine training program at Boston University 1979, under the guidance of M.Stuart Strong, MD. He left four years later as one of the first formally trained ENT PA’s in the US. In 1992, he was accessed back into the Air Force for Dessert Shield where he stayed for
3 more years of active duty and then transferred to the Active Reserves and finished another 11 years, having recently retired in 2005.
His Interests:
Outside of medicine, he enjoys home remodeling and landscaping. He and his wife, Rota, recently bought a home in the Bryson City area and have completely remodeled it on their own. He has remodeled his daughter’s home in Franklin and recently added a deck to the house. He enjoys both tennis and racquetball and he and his wife, along with their dog, Bailey, frequent the hiking trails on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Additionally, he is involved in the community as a member of the Carolina Mountain Trust for Children and is a former board member of the PAWS animal shelter.
