Mark Engel, MD
His Practice:
“It is an honor, a privilege and, for me, a calling to
get to know the people who come to me for advice and treatment, and to work with them toward their best health. My highest priority in medical care is to help my patients understand their physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs to the greatest degree possible so that they can take responsibility for themselves and make good decisions and efforts toward improving their lives. There are many challenges to providing quality health care in a rural setting like ours, and I enjoy working with the community and local health care providers to strive for the best medical care possible.”
His Education:
After a childhood spent largely in Phoenix, Arizona, Dr. Engel obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Reed College in Portland, Oregon in 1993, and went on to train at Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland, earning a medical doctorate in 1997. His residency training in Family Practice was completed at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 2000. He maintains certification by the American Board of Family Practice.
His Interests:
As the proud parents of twelve children (the latest due to be born in December, 2007),
Dr. Engel and his wife Kellyanne are largely consumed with the activities of their family life, which include home schooling. In his professional work, Dr. Engel strives for a balance of clinic, hospital and emergency medicine while spending regular time on administrative duties for the Swain Medical Center physician group.
