¤ Two hospitals: Harris Regional Hospital, 86 beds in Sylva; Swain County Hospital: 48 bed critical access hospital in Bryson City. The practice will hospitalize patients primarily at Swain County Hospital. The larger hospital has a hospitalist group providing coverage. WestCare also owns Mountain Trace Nursing Center located in Webster, NC. This skilled nursing facility can accomodate 106 patients.
¤ Primary service area: 3 counties, 45,000 people
¤ Secondary service area: 7 counties in western North Carolina extending into northern Georgia, 90-130,000 people
¤ Medical Staff: more than 80 physicians in 19 specialties; currently recruiting twelve additional physicians and 3 additional specialties
¤ Inpatient and ambulatory services offered are equivalent to most 250-300 bed community hospitals.
¤ Services include a regional cancer center; regional home health and hospice programs; a 100 bed SNF and a 20 bed swing unit at Swain offering extended rehabilitation services; a regional wound management team; and a regional ER which sponsors ambulance services in three counties
¤ WestCare Office Parks: affiliated physician office sites and ambulatory centers in three counties
¤ The regional tertiary center is Mission-St. Joseph's in Asheville. More than 90% of our out referrals are to Asheville. The remainder goes to Emory in Atlanta, UT in Knoxville, and to the medical schools in NC, Wake Forest in Winston Salem, UNC at Chapel Hill, and Duke in Durham.
